Since twitter has been such a popular topic of discussion within many peoples blogs I decided to find statistics about who the most dominant demographic on twitter and Facebook are in order to determine if twitter is really only used by the older generations. The largest group of Facebook users are categorized as those between the ages of 18-25, composing 52 percent of the Facebook population while those between the ages of 45-65 make up only around 5 percent. The largest demographic on Twitter are those between the ages of 35-49, composing 41.9 percent of those who tweet. The second largest group on Twitter are those between the ages of 25-34 making up 19.6 of the twitter populous. While I agree with many of the past posts which stated that twitter is for “old” people these statistics just proved this hypothesis correct essentially deeming twitter the Facebook of the older generation. To further prove this point another website dedicated to discussing social media networking states the median age of a facebook user is 26 while the median age of a twitter user is 31.
